If you we’re looking to buy a drum set, there are many brands and different price ranges that you can explore.
First thing is to choose your favorite music store where you feel comfortable shopping. Usually, salesmen are very helpful but I would always be sure to research and be as knowledgeable on the subject as possible before going into a music store because sales pitches are sales pitches and we know how things can go with that.
So what I recommend is to search for different drum companies and the types of instruments that they offer and at what prices they’re offered. Drum kits can vary. They can be $300.00, $400.00 and go right up to $10,000.00, $15,000.00 depending on the quality and the marketability of the drum set itself. Great brands to begin with would be Pearl drums, Tama drums, or if you want something a little bit more affordable, Westbury drums.
My first drum set was Westbury. They were great. In time, they fall apart but it’s good to know if maybe you’re going to quit and you don’t want to spend too much money right away. A brand like Westbury is a good way to go. Brands like Pearl and Tama, excellent drums but they have a range of drums. You can buy a $500.00 Pearl kit or a $5,000.00 Pearl kit.
Now, if you’re just starting out, go for the cheapest ones. I would recommend getting the cheapest drums, let’s say Pearl, Tama, Yamaha, and let’s say Sonar now makes great beginner kits, too. So for an affordable price, you can get something of quality and you don’t have to get the cheapest, cheapest drums and they have really good resale value.
