In this video I’ll show you how to determine the amount of the Economic Stimulus Payment that you received in 2008.
The most common reason you would need to know this number is to calculate your recovery rebate credit when you file your 2008 taxes if for any reason you didn’t qualify for the full $600.000 at the time when the checks were originally sent out find out that you now qualify. You can sometimes get the remainder of the amount that you didn’t get early in the year.
So, a lot of times people either didn’t know the amount of the check of didn’t keep the form that the IRS sent out stating the amount of the check, and they don’t remember right of hand but you do need this number in order to determine whether you have anymore of that stimulus payment coming to you.
So the way that we would do that is one of the two ways you can either enter the URL directly into the address bar of your web browser. It’s kind of a long URL though as you can see, so another way which maybe easier is just to do a Google search on the term Stimulus Check Status, and the first result that comes up there will usually be this exact URL. So you don’t have to type it in.
Once you have either quit on the link or type on the URL this is the page that will show up it say IRS.gov website. How much was my 2008 stimulus payment. Ask for three pieces of information. The first is your Social Security number or the Social Security number of the person whose payment amount you’re checking.
The filing status on your 2007 Tax Return and the number of exemptions on your 2007 Tax Return, so if you don’t have any of that information you will need to get it or possibly guess if you can make an educated guess. Unless you enter all that information it gives you the result, how much your check is for, and also a note to use the appropriate amount showing below when calculating the credit. And it will give you different scenarios depending on the status of your 2007 return as supposed year 2008.
So in this case, it’s going to be $600 either way if I had happens to have gotten married or gotten divorced to then there maybe a difference. Do to the filing status changed. If you need to check for your spouse for example, if you filed separately or if you got married and you filed single on your 2007 return then you can check your spouses status here, and fill in all the same information, Social Security, Filing status, number of exemptions, and then get your results.
And in this case, it’s the same results. But it could have been different depending on again, your filing status whether your married, single, whether you’ve got a divorce or gotten married in the meantime. All of these things is you all need to know when you fill out the Recovery Rebate Credit Worksheet or you’ll just need to get that information to your Tax prepare if you’re not doing your taxes yourself.
And down on the bottom of the page there’s an additional information on the Recovery Rebate Credit, the calculator, additional forms and publications, so if you still feel like you need additional information you can pretty much find everything you’ll need regarding these topics by following these links here.
