How to Carve a 2009 Wood Christmas Ornament

Let's take a look at how to carve this 2009 Christmas Ornament. This entire ornament, I am going to carve using the modified knife. The reason being on some of these smaller chips, the squared chips, the point of the modified knife gets down in those chips much more easily than a standard chip carving knife.

Also, these numbers are quite small, they have some tight curves on them and again, modified knife works best for those kinds of chips.

To begin with I am going to take out these three-cornered chips, there is four of them in each section. So, let's go ahead and get started. There is depth on that chip, and then draw it all the way up.

I am going to take both of these, as long as they are in a row, at the same time. Just slice and cut from shallow. Here is a deep-part. The point of the knife gets down in there. I will repeat that on these three-cornered chips from shallow to deep.

I'll come right down the line to take up this one right here. You have any clean up, just go back and then take care of that.
