Dan: This is the owner and operator skipper of the boat. This is a New Salmon Queen and what do you have us doing right here Jim?>
Jim: We’re just fishing this couple of pinnacles off of Point Reyes here. We’re getting a lot of ling cod. I’m surprised today we haven’t really get in a school of fish like we have been in bigger blacks and stuff. We might have to go move in sideways and get that done. We’ve been getting a lot of ling cod right here and you got one right there.
Dan: Yeah it just got bit. Let’s see what I got here. It looks like a little rockfish right now. Just working the jig straight up and down, the fish came up. I was fishing with a bucktail above it but when I got slammed those two fish at a time is kind of hard to bring them up so just fishing one nice sided jig 8 oz. There it is little rockfish.
Male: Way out there. Once you get him up off the bottom it’s pretty well keeping him up. They are absolutely pounding. I got a diamond jig on too. The deckman was kind enough to stick it up immediately and pass it off. This hoot that means a lot of fun in my part of the country just like you never know what you’re going to get.
On the East Coast it’s really, you know you’ve got a lot of species but near the diversity of what you got out here and it’s really neat. I don’t think we caught one of the same species yet. We just caught one; I mean I haven’t caught two. I don’t what it is and I probably won’t know what it is when I swing it over I have to ask Dan.
I was trying to bone up on my rockfish but there’s a chart in there that’s got a whole bunch of them on it. Every different flavor you can think of. I haven’t seen one of this. Is that a chili?
Is that good?
Okay.
Rob is going to tell me what it is but he has to tell me if it’s good. He tells you what it is that means this is good so and we haven’t caught one of those yet before. It’s so cool looking I mean they are such an— I got him inside of his gill plate. It should be okay to hold him right there right? Grouper hold.
But that is so neat, there’s so many colors out here just amazing. It really is amazing all the different species of rockfish, just rockfish. Let’s not count the cattle’s on and everything else out here. Absolute ball, just a gorgeous fish, it would make some gorgeous fillets. That’s the only thing when you’re eating this stuff I’m not going to know which is which. There are so many different kinds. Put him in there.
Dan: I got a ling here working the Magic Metal Jig down right on the bottom. Chris is going to gaff him. Alright. It’s a nice little ling cod.
Chris: It was just hooked in his mouth. It has been hooked before.
Dan: Yeah right here too it got cut. Nice ling cod. This is a Magic Metal Jig look at it right there on the bottom. The fish came up and grabbed and slapped at it, it picked him underneath. Nice fish, thanks Chris.
Chris: Okay.
