Ivo: Hi folks! It's Ivo here from Thundermist Lure Company and what a day we have today. It's early May, we're here on lake Erie fishing on New York state waters and the target for today Mr. Smallmouth and the exciting part about this spring fishing is you got an opportunity now to catch 5, 6, 7 pounder as those big fish start to move in close to the shore, looking for bait fish and getting ready to respond.
So, today what we're going to do we're going to run tubes and my tube of choice right now, because this fish, these bass are feeding on bay fish is a smoke color tube. So, what we're going to do, we're going to toss it out. The lake is dead flat calm, we're going to work our way slowly among this structure and see if we can hook into a nice trophy fish. Stay tuned.
Oh! Yeah that's a good fish. That's a good fish. Every so slightly did he bite, I'll need that net there. Now, you notice that if I had my drag tight for the hook set, but now that he is closer to the boat, Oh! That's a nice fish, that's a hog. This is what you get this time a year folks right like that. That is a nice smallie in any one's book.
And I'm trying to get that out, there we go. This is the average size fish this time a year. He has got to be 4 pounds anyhow, but we'll get a bigger than that today but that's a great start. Beautiful, maybe four -and-a-half. This is why I like those smoke tubes, this is what that fish just coughed up. I don't know if you can see that or not but they're definitely feeding on the big fish, so those smoked colored tubes or the darker greens, they work really well. The one I'm using in particular has some red flake in it.
I'm running a dark green one and this smoke colored tube with some red flake which also is a nice attraction. There is another one. That won't take too long. Usually, folks where there is one, there is more. Oops! She just come off. How is that for a net job? This one is a little smaller. See, if I can get my hands on her here. This guy is just a little guy, nothing like the other one, but again lots of fun, nice little fish. We'll let him go, we'll get another one for sure.
Oh! I'll tell you folks I just dropped my line back down. Like I said, where there is one, there is more. Here we go, holy cow, I didn't even get a chance to -- how is that? Look at that. That's like within, I got to say, hey, Derk, 60 seconds maybe.
Derk: Yes, it seems. I don't even talk about the little ones.
Ivo: A little nicer fish. This one is closer to 5 pounds, but that's a dandy bass. Let's get this one guy back in and I'm excited. We got to get some more. Beautiful!
After that last fish I decided to take a look at my line. You should always run your fingers along that line. I feel a couple of little nicks there so this 10 pound fluorocarbon that I have right now is probably equivalent to about 2 pound, because of these nicks in the lines. So I'm going to re-tie that bait.
I got something pretty big there. That might be a walleye. It's a nice walleye. Beautiful walleye. Alright, isn't that nice folks? This time of year early spring, fishing for bass, you never know when you're going to get a Mr. Walleye. That is a nice walleye. That's going to make nice table fare for tonight. So, that's a great way, I think what we're going to do folks, we're going to keep fishing here, we're going to work tubes mainly today. We are having some fun with these smallies. Hopefully, we can hook into a bigger one, but in the meanwhile, boy, that's sure is a nice bonus.
Till next time folks, good fishing.
