It is beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Well not really, but let us talk about that anyways because it will come soon enough. Christmas is the greatest. There is so many things to think about, but it is all so much fun. You have to decorate the house, absolute necessity. You need silver and gold, of course, any ribbons, any kind of wreaths that you can your hands on. Red ribbons, colorful green and red of course, and silver and gold are the colors of the season, but anything goes.
I remember one Christmas; we celebrated in a very small apartment. My son and I had a table top Christmas tree. It was actually a fake tree, but that did not matter much. It was so much fun to make our own decorations. We used the jewelry, we made a paper chain, we made popcorn strings, we used feathers and cardboard and made our own little tree top angel and lights. Lights are very important. If you can have a string of lights to put on your tree that is really kind of adds to the special effect of nighttime in a Christmas home. You want to think about different kinds of foods that you are going to be eating, and the drinks, Eggnog is very classic Christmas for the touch of nutmeg and for the adults, a little bit of cognac brandy wherever you would like and it is especially good when it had a snifter. Just a little bit of eggnog. It is such thing with fruitcake.
Some people like to go to Masset Christmas time. Some people love to sing. There are all kinds of wonderful, wonderful Christmas carols that you can either, just hear on the radio or you can get books and sing them yourselves. Maybe you know them all by heart like we do. Just if you play piano, if you know musician friends, invite them over. It is the best time of the year to sing with people. And some people like to go out and sing out in public and do Christmas caroling. These are all really easy things to do with your own family even if there is just two of you. It makes the season quite special.
Cooking the turkey is a simple thing. I am not much of a cook and even I can do that. You know, it is really quite simple. And you can add to that mashed potatoes, creamed onions, stuffing is, there is so many different recipes. It is really not that complicated and the idea with Christmas is to share it with others, to people that you love. And of course, if you wanted to exchange gifts, that is great, but it is not about how many gifts or how much you spend. We used to make our gifts as kids growing up and it was not until we all started working and had jobs that we had to start buying gifts because we did not have the time. But if you start really early and you know ahead of time that your love one would love a scarf, or a pair of gloves, and if it is something that you know how to do, if you can knit, if you can saw, you can make gifts. You can give them something you drew and that will mean as a whole lot to them. Sometimes, it is the thought that counts more than any thing and Christmas is really all about thinking about the people that you love and making sure that you know how to say that to them.
