Mike: Hi this is Mike callahan and doctor file finder and welcome to your butterscotch.com tutorial and how to change your drive letters. So, when go for click on start, we'll go up to settings, go across the control panel and click on that. The control panels opens, click on administrative tools, double click, find computer management and double click on that. Now when that comes up I'll bring it down where you can see it move down here under storage to disk management. Now, it's important to note that you should never try to change the drive letter of a drive or you actively install programs and files and lies that. Because when you install them, for example save to the drive D.
The computer write that in the registry and looks for those programs on drive D, so if you would have changed drive D to drive F when you try to run the program, the computer wouldn't know where it's at. But it's perfectly fine to change drives like removable media, CDs, DVDs, USB thumb drives that you put in all the time and so on. So, you can see here for whatever reason my DVD drive is drive H. And I've to get other ones at a nice line up here C, D, and E. So, I'm going to take and change this to F, so right click, say change drive letters in path, click change; there F is available and that shows you the ones that are available. Click Ok. Now it brings up a warning, basically telling what I did that changing the drive letter and it might cause programs to not run, making sure I want to change it. Yes, I'm sure and you are going to see right there it's changed.
So, this is a quick and easy way where you can change drive letters, so that you have them in the order which you want so that they make sense to you and that's all there is to it.
