Hello, my name is Yancey Lowe. I am the General Manager for Utility Service Express. I’m here today to show you a few things you can do to improve your heating and cooling needs. What we're going to do right now is I am going to show you and explain to you some of the aspects of how you change your filter and why is it important.
As you look at this system the first thing I would want you to do is go to your thermostat and turn your unit off. After you've done this, you can come back down to your unit inside and find your filter. On this unit, it happens to be right here. These very easily pop off and lay down and you want to pull your filter out of the rack and inspect it, and as you can see it on this one, it's very dirty. What this does is this puts extra strain on your unit and it also brings down the air quality in your house.
This filter's job is to clean the dust, germs, any kind of unwanted things in the air to clean it out. But once it gets clogged up like this, it loses its ability to do that and then it's actually harmful, well, not on just you, but it's harmful on the unit itself. So over the course of years, you might not for instance, 25% of your unit is locked, watch that.
So what we're going to do is, I am going to show you how to take your brand new filter which you can find at any hardware store, just the one thing you want to make sure is to match the size which we wrote on the side. You want to look at your old one, get the right proper size, go to your hardware store, find the right size, bring it back, slide it right back in and replace your door. Once you have done that, you can go back to your thermostat, turn your unit back on and you're ready to go.
Some of the other aspects of the filter world is they have different types. As you read on the label, they do make 30-day filters, 60-day filters and 90-day filters. Some of the more expensive ones they had are filters that actually help if you have allergies or if you have dry skin that do that. Couple of examples of these is this one, it's a 60 day filter. Some of the things you'll look at that you can tell is, as the age goes up on them, you'll notice that it gets a little bit thicker, a little bit tougher, harder to see through.
So either way, anyway that you want to choose your filter system, just make sure to pay attention and remember when it's time to change your filter next and I would like talk to you about something else.
For the past few years, they've been coming out with electronic air-cleaners. The one that I happen to have today to demonstrate to you is made by Trane it's name is Clean Effects. What they do is this guy actually kills 99.98% of the germs, viruses and any unwanted organisms in the air. As you can see, you just pop the two doors. It has an electronic meter here and it will tell you when its cells need to be cleaned. Usually the cells can go from three to six months before they need to get cleaned. The good thing about this guy is and the cells in there, if you keep it up and you keep it clean, you'll never have to buy cells again. These cells are cleanable, re-usable and will not lose their ability to do their job. The door simply pops off and as you can see, the cells, they pull right out and as you can look at it and you can see a little bit of dirt has built up on them. But yes when your lid tells you red, it's got a little logo here that tell you red, you know it's time to clean them and you can use a toothbrush or any kind of little brush and gently dust them off and actually you can use a damp cloth and a little bit of water and just make sure you dry them back off. But they're pretty durable. You can clean them back off, get the dust back off of them and then you want to insert them back just like they came out. Then you put this guy right in, taking your time, you put the door back on, flip your switches, come here, hit the reset button, lights are going to turn green. Once it goes back to green, it's telling you that the filters have been cleaned and it's running properly. It runs the same system three to six months depending on the air quality in your house. It will go back and tell you hey, I am ready to be cleaned again. As you can see the one I showed you is not installed. When properly installed it will take the place of the manual filter box and will be wired up properly inside your furnish or air handler.
