Hi! I am Dave Buckshot from autolite. So like me, you are probably more passionate about your bike than your car. Motorcycle is a fun sport but it is not a sport to be taken lightly. You may have to make sure you have safety equipment each and every time you ride and you have to make sure your bike is off the snuff that includes tire pressure, all your lights and your vehicle maintenance. This bike is coming up on 2400 miles and it is time to change the plugs for the second time.
Today, we are going to be upgrading the ignition system in our motorcycle with autolite extreme sports more spark plugs. They feature faster ignition up to 21% lower hydrocarbon emission output and better performance than a regular sparkplug.
The engine of our 2002 BMW 1150R is commonly called an oiled head. It has aluminum jags, you want to make sure that if it is too hot to touch, it is to hot to change the plugs. Be sure it is cooled off before you start. It does require us a special tools and it actually comes with the bike. First of is I am going to remove the plug cover right here. Set it down. Second, I am going to take the boot puller, and actually boot up.
We are using a pack BMW service tool because we need to get deep in the cylinder head. Put the tool in, put the cross wrench, loosen her up, and she is up. Okay, we are going to gap our autolite extreme spark plugs at about 32000. we need my round wire tool, put in here, make sure it fits, not to tight, not too loose, that is right, about perfect. We are good to go.
I am going to put the plug back in, we are going to use a factory tool again and sit it in the plug tool, stick it in the cylinder head, goes pretty deep, make sure it goes in nice and smooth. We are using a gasket of plug so once it seats, you want to turn it about a half turn, half the 2/3 of a turn. Okay, she is seated, that is about good. We are going to put a little grease in the boot just a little bit, make sure the boots seats, you will hear a little snap. This cover kind of goes on a little different, there is a couple of oaring over here, they go right in the back. I am going to make our way around the other side and fire it up. Beautiful. I should also point out that autolite extreme sport spark plugs are perfect avocation for Harley Davidson’s and many other small engines. Unlike the BMW, this takes a 13/16 wrench, no special tool and about two minutes to change. I am going ahead and change the plugs in this Harley real quick. You guys go on and enjoy your ride safely.
