Hi this is Chris with watchmojo.com. Now this one thing every driver should know how to do, is to change a flat tire and this demonstration we will show you how to keep yourself from getting stranded and give you back on the road and rolling in no time. First, put your car in park or gear and set the emergency brake. Turn off the engine, switch on the hazard lights and pop the hood. This will help notify other drivers that your car is stop, with a heavy object, block the tire diagonally opposite the flat, facing uphill, place the stopper behind the wheel. Facing downward, place it in front of the wheel.
Bring out your car jack, your spare tire and your lug nut wrench which is an L-shaped tire iron bar, remove the hubcap. Loosen the lug nuts. These hold the tire in place, so expect them to b very tight. Squirt penetrating oil around them if they lock. Place one end of the tire iron over a lug nut and unscrew it counterclockwise all the way, but do not remove it.
Do the same for the other lug nuts, working in a star shape by loosening them in opposites. Avoid bruising your knuckles by pulling rather than pushing, use your knees instead of your back to keep restraining yourself. Carefully jack up the car, checking your owner's manual for the proper jacking points. Place the jack and turn the knob at the end of it using the metal hand crank. Lift the car a little higher than necessary, raising the flat tire completely off the ground. The elevated car is no safe product.
Never crawl under an elevated car supported only by a jack. Remove the lug nuts and setting them aside somewhere safe. Lift the flat tire form off the threaded studs and put it aside. Use your muscles power to place the new tire onto the wheel studs. Make sure the air valve sticks out, not in. screws on the lug nuts by hand, working in a star pattern. Then, use the tire iron to get them snug. Snug not stud, place the wheel flush against the brake hub. Dismantle the jack. Now with the tire against the ground, tighten the lug nuts completely.
