Each time you click a file in Vista in specific programs open it. Sometimes you want to permanently change the program that opens a specific file type. In this video tutorial, I would show how change the default program association of files.
For this example, I will be using an image file with a (.)JPEG extension, also called a JPEG. Currently when you double click it, windows photo gallery opens it. If you want to change that, right click the file, go to open with, choose default program. Choose any of the program that you want to open that specific file. If it is not listed, click this browse button and search for that specific program.
For this example, I will have Microsoft Office Picture Manager is the default program that opens JPEG files. So, I select it and make sure this is checked so it will always open and not just one time. Click OK, so now it automatically opens up. Just to make sure it closed it out, double click the file again and you see that is Microsoft Office Picture Manager permanently opens that file type. You can use this exact method to change the default program association of any file in vista.
