I just finished downloading—and it says right here MD5 checks, check further integrity of the download and it says expert only. You don’t have to be an expert to do this. I’m going to show you two ways, one is with the GUI, you know user friendly way. And then a terminal if you know, you want to use a terminal. But I’m not going to use the open—on DVD that I got, I’m just going to use some other dish, it’s the same.
Well first you need to fire up on Acetone ISO, this program and all you’ve got to do is, you know look at the image that you’re using. In this case I’m going to use puppy Linux, this ISO here. And you see there’s a—you know when you’re downloading something they give you a MD5 file. Basically what it is, it’s just a text file when you open it. When you open it, it looks something like this inside. See it gives you a number, this number has to match with the ISO. So just let me do it and then you’ll get the idea what it does.
Using Acetone ISO to here, all you’ve got to do is go to utilities, since MD5—oh it’s already here. And all you’ve got to do is check, and it tells you to choose the ISO that you’re looking for. So we’re doing puppy Linux right? So you open it, and you wait for a bit and it should tell you this thing right. See, it tells you the number over here, and you want to make sure that it matches with the, what they gave you.
A user gave you a file or something on the website, see like this, on this case we’re just going to look at the first three letters, three characters in the front and three characters in the back. So seven B C and then E seven F, so it’s the same. So we know that’s a valid ISO image. And let’s say they don’t give you an MD5 file, you know file to download. So in this case I’m going to use PC Flux Box here. They only give you a number, this number right here. Right here this is the checksum number, so I’ll just going to copy that and you can only create a new file where your, you know image is at. See this is the many flux of—so all you’ve got to do is create a new document, and you want to open it. Let’s see, and you want to paste that in there, and then they’re going to give you like two spaces to.
Then you need the copy of the name of the mini flux to, the ISO thing, copy it. And then paste it in, and it’s an ISO so you don’t have to type ISO. So that’s all you’ve got to do, save it right and we need to rename the file to—the filename to, either rename it to—oh yes on dot ISO, ISO and then you have to put MD5, and you see is the names matches up with the your ISO and your image. This one and this one, the only difference is it has a dot MD5 here.
So that’s how you create MD5 file to check and what we’re going to do with this file is we’re going to use a terminal to check it, no this is the method two I’m talking about. So I’m going to show you how this thing works. With the terminal, you want to go change directory to this directory here. So I’m just going to copy as it is, as our directory. So if you go, we’re using our terminal here, you CD, that means change folder or go to that folder. So this is the folder we’re going to, my parking folder. And then the command is—what is the command? Oh yeah MD5 sum, space, dash C. And then all you’ve got to do is either—but the simpler way is just to drag the MD5 file here. You want to drag it in there, that’s easy right?
And then just execute and you wait, and then you see it says okay and that means it’s good, because the numbers matches with the ISO. And that’s how you check it, that’s how easy it is you know with the Acetone and this with the terminal. So you don’t have to be a expert to do this, regardless of what they say that’s all.
