Hi this is PCRoger and the purpose of this video is to show you how you can check the smart errors or smart status on your individual hard drives in your Netgear ReadyNAS, NVX or actually some of the other ReadyNAS models will be the same through the Administration Panel.
Now here I’ve got my Firefox browser open and one point to do to avoid and annoying strip it here I’m going to quit and type and HTTPS. I’m going to Secure Mode right away along with the name of device that will resolve too and Admin. We get to Control Panel, here we’ve got the authentication box by Default the user name is Admin, the password Netgear 1. I do recommend that you change that, and here we have a box that actually gives us a couple of smart drive errors through the status or that just some pop up windows if it happens since you’ve—last.
What you need to do is go on there and click on Status and in health and here you see your discs and it gives us the information, the temperature of the discs and speed temp, and if you have the UPS connected in the status search as well. But this point is the one that was giving us the errors and we can find that out here in the logs. We allocated sect account as increased in the last date as one, so I’ve got period to help. And this is okay by clicking the smart one box and you can see here it gives us the model serial number from where device. It gives you span of time, start account, all kinds of nifty piece of information.
But what we’re looking out here is the reallocated sect account I mean, certain sectors here where found to be bad or defective, and reallocated to different sector and then marked “bad” so that it won’t be used again. And this is the kind of information I want to keep close track because with this increasing you know couple of pre-locates a month and that is not a good sign you shouldn’t see that. We are going to actually contact Seagate and get this disc replaced.
There you have it the Neatgear ReadyNAS is a very fine, fine network attach to storage device since this is the newer NVX model and these drives are nearly high qualities Seagate Enterprise drives, but just like anything else something can go wrong. Seagate will have warranty drive for five years, and we’re going to take a look at them, take them up on that warranty for just one.
But in the meantime, the unit is protecting our data. It is on rate five status, so there’s a redundancy and we will swap that discount pretty painlessly and give a thing to care on. That’s it for this video, I appreciate you’re watching. Please stop on my website PCRoger.com. I’ve got a lot of other great information there it offer things to help you with your computing life.
