How to Check a Car Battery and Charging System

Most of us never give our battery a second thought until it stops working, usually on a cold winter morning. But contrary to popular belief it's not the cold that usually kills a battery, its excessive heat or faulty component in the charging system. Then when the cold weather comes along increasing the cranking demands on the battery, the damage shows. Of course, there a few things you can do to avoid a battery related bummer. First, have your battery charging system checked once a year, especially if you're battery is more than 2 years old. Belle Tire's ASE certified technicians can perform a load test to make sure everything is working properly. Also make sure you keep the top of your battery clean. Dirt is a conductor and can drain power. If the battery's terminals have corrosion, you can remove it using a simple mixture of baking soda and water. And when its time for replacement, Belle Tire has a full line of hard-working batteries from Exide, including Exide's NASCAR(r) Select series.
