Hi I'm David Lupberger with servicemagic.com. If you're getting ready to have a baby or you've got small children in the house, there are certain things you need to do to get your house childproofed. We're going to talk about five of these things today that you can do yourself.
Install Cabinet Latches
In most kitchens there is a variety of cleaners and solvents. You want to make sure that your children can't get to this. Here is a simple childproof latch. They can't get in but you can.
Install Outlet Covers
You also want to make sure that children can't stick anything into these electrical outlets. These are outlet covers purchased at any hardware store. Put that in and they are safe.
Install Knob Covers
For both basement and garage doors you want to make sure that the children can't fall down the stairs. Here is a simple door handle that really only an older person can use to open that door. Use this on garage and basement doors, it will make sure your children don't get in those rooms.
Install Foam Covers
This brick hearth has some sharp edges and if your child were to fall against this, this could really hurt them self. These foam corners have adhesive in place that go right on those corners and you can take these off as soon as your child gets a little older.
Install Baby Gates
This is a long way to fall and even further when you are an infant. This is the specific reason for baby gates. These baby gates go at top of the stairs, lock into place and it means no child can fall down those stairs.
