I want to tell you what we have got a tough one now. This is very hard packed ground. So this is what's called a thin lie or I don't have any grass underneath it, a tricky shot but you can play it if you know how to do it. What we are going to do, we want to make sure to catch the ball first and then the turf. That's always true, but especially important here.
So what we are going to do is to play the ball even a little bit farther back in the stance. That's going to help me to catch that ball clean and then the turf. You can imagine, the more back the ball is, the better chance I have of hitting the ball first. If the ball will weigh forward, of course, I would be hitting the ground too early. So a little extra back in the stance, a little extra forward with the handle there. That again is going to increase the chance so that I am going to hit the ground forward. If the head comes forward this way, then all of a sudden, it's hitting the ground too early.
So a little extra sensation of letting the club drag the rest of the head into impact. The handle is being basically dragging the club right through impact. This is extremely important that to not use these little wrists to propel the club on this shot. A couple of practice swings to get ready to make sure that you are brushing the ground in the right place.
Also, these factors that you have changed, putting the ball little farther back, leaning the handle a little farther forward, that's going to make the shot come out just a little bit lower. So you have to expect that to happen; ball more back in the stance, handle more forward and off I go. The hardpan lie, it is a tough one but if you know how to do it, you are going to be just fine.
