How to Choose Eye Glasses
Rebecca: One basic guideline to follow when choosing a pair of glasses is that their shape should be opposite from the shape of your face.
Hi, I’m Rebecca Brayton and welcome to watchmojo.com. And today, we’ll be learning what else you need to take into consideration when choosing a pair of frames.
What do we have to take into consideration when choosing a pair of glasses for our face whether they’d be reading glasses or sunglasses?
Patrick: Well first thing, I would take into consideration is the function. You need sports glasses or more of an evening wear or something for a particular need. Then we’re going to prescription because obviously if you have a very high myopia, you have very thick lenses, you might have to cut down with some choices. You will like to hide those thick edges. You’re going to something bolder, a plastic or a frame that has a full circle just to hide a little bit of this correction of the lens. And one last thing obviously is the fashion parts. So, I’d say first of all, you go function, prescription, and then fashion.
Rebecca: Is it a fallacy that you should be choosing a pair of glasses that suits your face shape?
Patrick: The equation is very simple. If you want to enhance, go with the frame that fits the shape of your face. If you want to tone down, go with something opposite. Go with circles on square, square on circles.
Rebecca: Are there any rules or guidelines that we should follow in terms of fit?
Patrick: Definitely, even though most of the metal frames. We can adjust properly. Plastic frames for what I’m wearing right now, it really has to sit down on the nose quite nicely.
Rebecca: How should we care for our glasses so we can keep them as long as possible?
Patrick: Strong soaps, anything with anti-bacterial kind of dry the plastic or the acetate. So, you want to have without anti-bacterial soaps, something soft shampoo to take care of your frame. As for the lenses especially the ones with coatings, anti-reflection, or anti-scratch, you want to take care of them with a nice micro fiber that usually comes along with glasses and a little spray without acetone.
Rebecca: Any final things to say about the tips?
Patrick: Well, and how about if we try some frame line. Let’s look at a couple of styles. When I was talking about different function, when you’re looking into something more sports or as if you’re looking into something more elegant, more evening, it's too very different style depending on what you care for. When you look at a drill mount, something that is frameless basically, the purpose of this frame is not to see anything.
So this I would say is the closest to a one size fits all. More edgy, older frame, vintage, very nice, fits very well. Now, as a nice fashion faux pas, when we’re talking about vintage, this would be a very nice modern revisited vintage. But if we go too much, definitely it fits not that great.
