Alright now we are going to talk about helmets. There are two different types of materials used to make a helmet. You can either go with the plastic helmet. Plastics tend to be a more affordable option. They are nice and lightweight and they can take several impacts overtime. Composites tend to be a more expensive helmet. Again nice and light weight and they tend to take a larger more forceful impact. Then we have got a couple of different types of helmet shapes available. This is a good example of a full coverage helmet.

This helmet comes down and protects the ears as well as the back of the neck. A helmet like this is going to be great for river running or creeking. This helmet is a little bit more low profile. You can see that it's not going to cover the ears and will only come to about the back of the head. This type of helmet is a little bit more comfortable to wear but best suited for playboarding type activities. The main difference between a woman specific helmet and a unisex helmet is the size of the shell.

A woman specific helmet tends to be smaller sized overall to accommodate a woman's smaller head. When it comes to fitting your helmet you will find that most helmets come one-size-fits-all and will come with the variety of shims that you use to fit to your head. Most helmets it's also have some type of retention system in the back that's used to secure the helmet to the back of your head and keep it from falling forward or back.
