How to Choose Your Fruit
Narrator: Fine Living Networks Smart Tips with Chef Jill Davie.
Jill Davie: Now there’s nothing more disappointing than coming back from
the market having thought you picked out all these fresh fruits and
you take a bite and it’s not right.
Well there are few things to know in selecting fresh fruit. You
want to make sure that the fruit is heavy for its size. That way, you
know that it’s really juicy on the inside.
Also, check for blemishes. You want to make sure it has a
consistent color. The other thing is you want to check for firmness.
Now, it should have a little bit of a goo but not too much that it’s
mushy.
The other thing, give it a smell. It should smell like you want to
take a bite of it right then in there. Ideally, you should go straight
to the source. So check out any local farmers’ market, that way, if
you have any questions, you go directly to the farmer and ask him
yourself.
