Host: What criteria should I use when choosing a dog? Michelle Otis: Take a realistic inventory of your home environment and your lifestyle and how you want this dog to fit in. And secondly, you want to take a good look at whatever behavior, evaluation or whatever assessment that the shelter has done on the dog which you’re looking at and see where those match and make sure that they do match. And if they don't match, be realistic about your expectations and about the information that you have and make sure that as you transition that dog into your home, you make extra accommodations where your counselor suggests.
