Cheryl just moved into her new house in Hawaii and she is looking to totally change the color palette on her main walls. Right now, she has got a lot of yellows, creams, and some pale greens is going on. But she really likes to bring in some blue.
Well, I think blue is a great choice because in Hawaii the light is gorgeous and there is a phrase that decorators often use and we totally overuse it which is bringing the outdoors in. The great blue would be a soft sky blue for that kitchen and living or dining room area.
Since everything is opened to one another and if don't really have any breaks in the wall, it's good just to paint with that light color, it will become neutral, it will become soothing and also gives you the chance to bring in some fun accent colors.
Cheryl is thinking about bringing in some black furniture pieces. It's a great choice of light blue. I do this palette all of the time in bathrooms. I use black countertops, white cabinetry and paint the walls blue and every time it's a winner. So this is going to be a very pretty palette.
Cheryl has also got an entrance way that needs to be addressed. There is a wall going down her staircase. By painting that wall a nice sandy brown, she has got a little bit of sand and sky going on. I think it's shouting for a terrific large over scale piece of art.
It's a really good chance to bring in some contrast and some relief from a lot of the blue that will be happening. And it also just changes the look little bit, so that whatever artwork she does fit up there, it will really pop. I suggest the artwork should have some light blue, some of the white, some of the sand color and a little bit of black in it.
One last thing to do in the entrance way, she has got a cushion that's in need of a little bit of help. It's looking a little sorry. I suggest recovering it with a fabric like a big busy graphic black and white print is going to help establish the entire home's color palette from the minute you walk in the door.
