Hi, everyone; and today, I am going to show a little tip on how to clean your sterling silver jewelry. What I got here is an aluminum pan and some baking soda. I got my tarnished piece and then I brought over new clean chains so that we can do a little comparison and I got a spoon there just for mixing and I got some boiling water on the stove. I want to say here that you want to be very careful when you are handling the boiling water. Please be careful.
Keep the boiling the water close to the pans, you do not have to do a lot of traveling with a hot kettle or a pot in my case. What I got here is my tarnished piece, and I have laid it all out and I am going to cover it entirely with a baking soda. The baking soda in the boiling water and they are going to be reacting and its going to need to be completely covered with the baking soda in order for it hits all the tarnished parts. So, I am just going to smooth it out a little bit here and make sure that all the links are covered; if you got a bunch of different pieces it would be much more convenient to put them all in the pan at the same time.
Now, I got my boiling water and I am just going to pour it over and please while you are doing this if you could lean back and not have the pan in directly in front of your face. So you do not breathe any of it and there is a tiny chemical reaction going on so there will be something. So, I am just going to be mixing it up a little bit here to be sure that all the pieces are getting cleaned.
It looks like the chain is not completely clean at this point. Depending on how dirty the pieces are you might need to do them several times and probably going to need to do this a couple times before. It actually gets cleaned but I am just going to start this again.

I have just covered it up again and I am pouring the water in. Again, back away while it is bubbling so you do not have to inhale any of that stuff. I actually have this piece out for maybe over a year so it has got pretty tick clear of tarnish. It looks like it is going to need one or two more washes. It is starting to get pretty cleaned though. I do not know if you can see that in the video.

Before that this looks best with chain because it is just really difficult to clean chain with a polishing cloth or with anything. Really, I find this is the most convenient with chain, you could clean other things with it but with other pieces, larger pieces you can just use a polishing cloth and it will work great. So, I am just going to strain a little bit and put it on the paper towel to dry.
So, it looks like it is still a little bit dark, it might need one or two but you can see already with the light kind of coming off of the chain that is already pretty light. I am going to put it in my hand so you can see a little bit of comparison and a little close up. You can see that it is much cleaner, it is much cleaner compared to how it started and here is the new one. It is almost there, it might need one or two more washes and make sure you rinsed the baking soda off of it completely otherwise it leaves like a little residue and you do not want that.
Yeah and there is a little bit of residue on my fingers. So, that is it for today’s tip on how to clean sterling silver and jewelry. I hope you learned a little bit and that you enjoyed this little video. Thank you so much. Do not forget to check out the blog and I will see you next week with another video post.
