Okay, so it is spring time, we have got to clean up. So we are going to go into the backyard and I am kind of showing you a bunch of things really quickly here. By the way, I am on my way down to the perennial garden and take a look at the grand blonde box woods. So here we are, we are in the perennial garden, we got some shrubs, you got roses here, and I definitely want to clean this out so I got a small kids rake, do not laugh, I like using this to get in to small spaces.
I am going to start with this nice plastic right here, I really want to look it what is going on in the garden there is some springs test starting to pop upright like if you look over here, we have got some of the Spring Adonis coming up. I want to be real careful I might even take away with my hand some of the dead stuff because I do not want to use the rake on that because I will end up destroying it.
But here, you have got some; looks like some little Caucuses maybe starting to come up. This is my lamb shears that started to come up, this the rake can handle. Our goal here is to take away all the dead leaves and growth from last year and really expose all these new growth that is going on. The reason you want to do this early is that in another week or so, everything is just going to start the pop, and if you wait too long, it gets more and more difficult to clean out your garden.
Right in here, there is some tulips which have started to come up, and again I do not want to take the rake because I am afraid that I might damage them. They have grown a little bit too high for me to start using the rake. So I will use my hand to kind of get the tulips cleaned up, then I can use the rake to clean that out.
Here is a Chrysanthemum and again one of the things you want to be doing in the spring is just really pruning back to the ground all these perennials. One thing I like to do is I take my bag of fertilizer, let us say you have got your area all cleaned up. Just sprinkle a little bit of fertilizer throughout the perennial garden; this really help, giving the nice boost.
I am going to be spending so much time over the next few weeks just bringing my perennials down to the ground to allow that new growth to come up and be sure you are using just a little bit of fertilizer, it does not need a lot but it is a good idea to do your fertilization at this time of the year.
