How to Clean and Adjust a Sliding Glass Door

Hi, I’m Don and this is Cooper. We’re from WindowPro. Today, we’re going to go over adjusting and lubricating a sliding glass patio door. Most of this can be done with regular household tools and stuff that you can get at your local hardware store.

The first thing that you want to do is clean the track of the sliding glass door. You’ll clean the track of the door to make sure that it slides and rolls somewhat easily. You can use a regular paint brush to clean the dirt off. If the track is grimed up and somebody has used an oil-based lubricant, what you can do is damp on a cloth with mineral increments, wipe the track down.

The next step that you’re going to do is you’re going to look at the edge of the sliding glass door. It may have a plastic or metal cap over top the adjusting screw. Insert the Phillip screwdriver with an 8 to 10-inch plate into the hole in the bottom corner of the vent panel.

By turning the screwdriver a quarter turn increments, you’ll be able to see the door adjusting. By turning screw clockwise, that will raise that side of the door. Turning the screw counterclockwise, that will lower that side of the door.

That’s how you’re going to adjust the rollers on the sliding glass door. Next we’ll talk about lubricating. As far as the lubricant, what you want to do is clean the track off and we’re going to use spray silicone. Again, the reason that we’re going to use silicone is because dries dry and you’re just going to remove the cap, take the red straw which is to help you aim the silicone. You’re going to use safety glasses. Put the safety glasses on your going to lubricate just the track where the rollers roll on the sliding glass door.

That should help the sliding glass door slide very easily. You should be able to know a great difference. If that doesn’t help you can call a licensed professional. Next we’re going to talked about weather stripping on a sliding glass door.
