Welcome to guitarlessons.com I’m Nate Savage in this lesson I’m going to be teaching some of the options you have when you're cleaning your guitar.
Now the few things here if you want to check them out I have a regular polish cloth and a good polish cloth, I actually think it’s about 12 bucks for this thing. And some regular Dunlop polish for your guitar.
Now the 1st thing we’re going to talk about when we talk about in cleaning your guitar is you don’t need anything. All you need is a polish cloth and that’s the 1st step and you should always try that first. Because you really don’t wanted to be going and putting chemicals on your guitar, unless it’s so bad that you have to have something to kind of shine it up and get some gunk off of it.
So the first thing you would do is just to take the dry polish cloth and polish you guitar for finger prints and stuff. Even after you play a gig or after you’re finished playing with your friends. Just try a regular polish cloth.
The second thing you might want to try if you don’t have polish with you. Believe it or not it’s kind of growse but it’s spit. I’m not going to spit on my guitar or anything for you but that’s all you have, it actually works really good and maybe a little bit better than polish.
So but I do have polish so one thing you want to remember when you’re working with polish. Don’t spray right down directly on your guitar, it's probably not the best thing, you want to spray on the rag and then go in your guitar. So usually wipe it on with the side I just sprayed and polished then I take the other side, polish it, make sure it’s nice and shiny.
The last thing I’m going to tell you about is your lighter fluid. This comes in a word of caution. Be careful when you’re using lighter fluid on your guitar, because unlike Jimi Hendrix he set his guitar on fire. We’re going to be using lighter fluid to clean the guitar if in extreme situations if you have that old guitar that has been trashed, or you’ve inherited a guitar which lots of junk on it, lighter fluid actually works really good to take some heavy grit off. And same thing applies we have lighter fluid put on a rag and then apply to the areas that you’re going to need to clean the guitar.
So dried cloth and maybe some spit maybe some polish and then in extreme situations you can use lighter fluid.
