How to Coach Baseball: Backhand Drill

[Music Playing] This is the “Backhand Drill”. The purpose of this drill is if the ball is hit to your back hand side and you are not able to utilize your shuffle step. The back hand will be implemented. Let us take a look. Let us get a good, ready position. We talked about ready position. I am low. I saved the second. I am down here. I am not up here, I am down here. Glove elbow up in front of the knee, balls of my feet. Good bent knees and right out here, gloves out here. The ball is hit. We are going to our glove hand side, gentlemen. Here I go. [Demonstration] One, boom! We end up with our throwing side foot. That is imperative that we know that. Our throwing side foot, okay? My eyes, watch the ball go into the glove, and I am low. Again, I am not up here, I am not like this. I am low. Eyes watching the ball go into the glove, all right? And again, as my throwing side foot, your glove is open. Look at this, my glove is open, okay? Let us take a step back. We will do it one more time and then I will roll some balls to you, all right? Here it is. I am not up here, I am down here. I just saved the second. I am down. Glove out and front. The ball is hit. We will take that pivot, glove and foot together. Eyes, you watch the ball go into our glove. [Demonstration] Throwing, throwing foot is what our glove is planted against, glove and foot together. You should field a couple. Glove and foot.
