The bases in our league are in the inside of the foul line. The player must cross over the line to touch the base. Also, the player should run through the base and to the right if he/she is not going to second.

This is a simple drill that we do with each player, showing them the proper way to run down the first base line. As a player runs down the line, we make sure that he stays on the outside of the line, running straight through the base, hitting the front of the base.
As he approaches the base, we recommend that he keeps his head down and run right through the base and not lunge, as he just did.
The reason why we emphasize running on the outside of the baseline: Number one, it is the rule; and number two, if he is on the inside of the line, he is out because of interference.
