At this station, we have a player on their knees; we have the bat and their front arm.
The front arm is just their guide hand. Their back hand is where the power is generated. In this drill, we try to build up strength in their front fore arm so we have quick bat through the strike zone.
The object here again is that the players head is down at the ball. We are trying to emphasize that the hips is still turning and their head is on the ball.
We try to build strength in their forearm and like I said, this top hand is more of a guide hand through the strike zone. The power will be generated from their back hand and their back arm.
Now we have the player switch hands and put the bat in their back arm, here is where the player will be generating their power.
As you can see, the players are a little strong with the bat, the bat is a little quicker so bat’s speed is generated from their back from their back arm.
They are going to the strike zone, head is down.
Good.
Excellent now, let us put both hand on the bat, let us put it all together so again, the top hand is going along for a ride. The guide hand and the back hand is where the power is coming from.
Head down, swing down at the ball.
Good.
Quick bat!
We are looking for a short, quick, compact swing. This drill can also be done in different variations. First time we had a player on both knees. This time we will put the player on one knee. Eventually we will have the player standing.
You can also do this drill doing soft tossed. Soft tossed standing up. Notice that the player’s hips are turning, his head is down and his back arm is coming through the strike zone.
