Go alternate. Left foot, right hand for the right side. Right foot, left hand for the left side. All we are trying to do is get the players to learn the ending or the closing step on a lay up so they get familiar with it. If we can get them to do that successfully, then it will be easier to lay in a full court lay up for them or a driving move if they need to do that.
Now we can do this same thing once we get our players trained by putting them at two baskets and letting them alternate. We always start from the blocks. We have to make sure we always put them in so that they are not too far out.
Go ahead.

Good.

That is right, you pat yourself. Another good thing about this drill is players – try it one more time. Players will learn what feels correct and what does not just like what happened and they will learn to catch themselves and to do it properly.

Once we get our players to get comfortable and master the one step lay up from both sides, we are going to move them back just below the foul lines. And I am going to put them on the hash marks. The reason I like them on the hash marks is I believe that they will be comfortable in using every hash mark as a step for every step they needed to take in a lay up process.
From the right side, we are going to put the ball on our shoulder pad, we are going to take one dribble on this drill, we are going to go forward with the left foot.

Good. Alternate sides. This time, we go forward with the right foot. And what you will notice is every hash mark represents a step. Left foot, one dribble. Right foot, one dribble.
