In order to teach skills, it is always best to work from in close and move out so that when players develop their skills they are developing proper mechanics and form, for whatever they need to do. We are going to use that principle, that practice principle in order to teach young players to become better shooters.
We are going to put our players into a triple threat position, so he will go to a shooting position or hold the position. He will always make a delivered stop in triple threat. Once he is there he will shoot the ball. He will have a teammate that will rebound for him and go ahead and shoot.
We are going to have each player make a minimum of five shots from each spot. We know our time is usually limited but we still want to take them through these drills. We take our young players through this, go ahead and shoot, and we try to make it as simple for them as possible. He has made his L-form, once he gets the ball, now we just got to have him bend his knees so he is prepared to shoot. Very simple process and he can shoot from that position. Shoot.
We have not at this point got into a lot of technical information about shooting. I believe that physically they are doing the right things that they will be able to bring along themselves. Shoot. Go back to a shooting position, shoot. So I believe that the critical thing to do is to teach them and make sure they have an L when they go to a shooting position and that they have their knees bent and from there they will be able to do very well on their shooting. Shoot.
