Hi! I am Tina Cohen, and we are showing you clips today on how to do emo hairstyles. Right now, I am going to show you how to color your hair for that emo look.
Basically, for guys emo hair coloring is usually a darker color black, I chose a blue-black to go with for Ryan's hair. This is Ryan our model, and I bought professional color, but you can find this color in the store, in the grocery store, your local pharmacy. You don't have to use professional color, if you have access to professional color, that's great too.
A couple little tips, when dyeing your hair darker, you want to wear gloves so you don't stain your hands, and a good practice is to use some sort of barrier around the skin, around the hairline so that you don't dye your face also. So I am mixing my color and now I am using the developer that goes with the color. Now, this color line, you specifically have to measure one part to two parts. But like I said, your box colors, it's already proportioned for you so you don't have to worry about proportioning it yourself.
Okay, so I have my color mixed, it's ready to go. Now, when dyeing short hair, you don't really have to worry so much about sectioning the hair. But when you dye long hair, it's great to do it in pieces. So I am going to take a little bit of my color and just go right in the front, right around the hairline. Like I said before, what you want to do is make sure you put some sort of barrier on the skin so that you don't dye your skin. After you get the front of your hairline, you want to start going around your ears and the back of your hairline as well.
So, now that the edges are completed, I am going to start with the front of the hair and I am just going to basically take the color from the root where I first placed it and run it through to the strand, the end of the hair so the whole strand is nice and colored. If you need to you can take a comb that has a fishtail end or a dye brush, and part the hair and lift it, so that you can separate it and really get the front end back of the strand. It's a little bit easier when dyeing shorter hair, but you really want to be careful about that when you are dyeing long hair, that you really get the entire strand of the hair colored.
So once you get that first piece, then you can start moving backwards. You don't need a whole lot of color, a little goes a long way. What you can also do is sort of run your fingers, with a gloved hand through the hair to make sure that it's really coated well. Now, the color itself is this blue color, but don't worry, the color of the dye doesn't necessarily indicate how it's going to turn up.
Okay, so now the hair is completely covered with dye. What you can do at that point is sort of run your fingers through to sort of make sure it's all nice and covered with dye so you don't have any spots. After the color is completely placed on the head, what you are going to want to then do is read the instructions on the box and make sure you know how much time you need to let it set so that it really saturates the hair.
So now that the color is on, I am going to set my timer and let it set. Here's what you need to do if you get any hair color on your skin, you want to grab a paper towel, not a towel because you don't want to stain your towels at home and just wet it a little bit, and it should come right off. You may need to use a little bit of soap as well, but you can see I've got just a little bit of color here on Ryan's skin, so I am just going to gently remove that with some water.
The dye was finished, the timing was perfect. We went and rinsed it out. Whenever, you dye the hair you do want to shampoo and condition afterwards. So, sit around the next clip, I am going to be showing you how to cut your hair.
