The last time we just made sure that the remote is connected to the computer and it was receiving signal and we also said it so we can use the remote as a keyboard or a mouse on start up with the UN input and then G-edit all the modules. So this time we will set it to work with ELISA media center and we are going to map the keys and all the basics stuff to make it work with ELISA media center.
So what we need to do is if you don’t have it from the last time you can start from here. UN input right? You need this, this is very important to our procedures. So after you have that you are going to make a folder and it can be anywhere. It doesn’t really matter but I like to put it in the hidden ELISA media folder and I just name it remote as a new folder and I have these two files in here.
This file is an input ELISA. This is basically where you map your keys, your remote keys so you look down, left right AB all that. You are going to map it with keys that works on ELISA media center, so these are the keys where the ELISA media center and this is where the remote so when we press it that is how you are going to navigate.
In ELISA media center GUI right, so that’s that. Now this is a script here. ELISA end player and the script, what it does is like an on-and-off switch on a TV. If the TV is on, you turn it off and if the TV is off, you turn it on and you use the same button, right? So that is what you are going to do here if ELISA media center is on it is going to turn off, and if ELISA is a media center is off it will turn it on so is the toggle between on and off.
And with that one I will include the download link and make sure you have this set permission, okay? So you have to set permission to execute, so go to properties and permission and allow executing. Now after you have all of that, you have to run it connected to your remote, so in here in the terminal, just type in sudo WM input-W-C space.
Right now all you have to do is drag in your ELISA keys here, the WM input and this I would do is make the remote connect to all the computer and it will use the ELISA mapping, the keys. So we are going to hit enter and it is going to ask for password, so type in your password and now it will tell you push one and two to discover. So you push the one and two button on your remote and it should say some stocking air or whatever but it is working, don’t worry. It will say ready or some sort of a confirmation that it is working and your remote should stop blinking. It should work now if you push some buttons here.
Let me open ELISA media center, we can see that it is working. It is taking so long, so now I am just going to my remote like right now and it is working so it is good. We go now for full screen. You can see I can navigate to this so it is good, it is working. Now what we want to do is next, map the GNOME with that on and off toggle that we made right. So to do that we have to go to the keyboard shortcuts so, now in here you are going to look for a business launch and media player. But before the media player is a rhythm box. But that’s okay, we are going to change that later.
So here we are just disable or whatever, click on that and now you use the keys that you want to use. I use home for this, so you press the home button on your remote right now and it should map it and that is the equivalent of whatever you said in to your remote keys in our script. So we just set it with the home key with the home button in the remote and this will open the media player.
Now by default when you press it, it will open the rhythm box but we want to change that also. So next we are going to do is go to your prefer applications and now we are going to media. It is used to be on rhythm box but when go to custom and in custom you want to point it to an ELISA end player, script that we made over here, wherever you put the script, you want to it point in to that so it is in our home folder, our ELISA and our remote and then just halfway.
So that is what we have over here and that is all you have to do and now by default, if you press the home key, it is going to turn on and if this is on and you press it again it should turn off. So we are going to push off and then there you go, it is working, so that is how we make toggle on-and off and how we set up the remote to work with ELISA media center and the scripts for this. I am going to include it because I need it too.
So that is all for this one.
