How to Connect With Friends on Twitter
Hey guys, this is Matt from KA Social Media and this is my second on my first day on Twitter. The first video just a recap of it really quick was just an introduction on Twitter and at the same time how to sign up for account.
So on this video, this is the kind of the screen once you hit creating my account, and this is the second screen that takes you to. And Twitter just adds this couple of weeks ago and I really, really like it. What Twitter wants to do is they want to get you connected with people early on. They don’t want you to happen to find people but they want to connect you early.
So, a little bit about some of the Twitter lingo that you have to learn is there’s people—there’s something called people that you are following and people that are following you. And to read here, right here in the middle step one, browse suggestions I’m just going to read what Twitter says, it says, to get started, select the topics you’re interested in. Find a few people you want to hear from then follow them. When you follow someone, each time they tweet, you’ll see their tweets on your tweeter home page. You can follow or un-follow sources anytime.
So basically, what it is, is the people you were following is people that you’re interested in, people you want to hear from, people who you think might be good to get insight from. And so what we’re going to do is I’m going to go over here on left, and one that I’ve already kind of pick down as I browse through this that’s something that we’re interested in. As you can see, there’s tons of everything as you can see. But the one we’re introducing in is technology. And if you comedown over here you could see right here the second one down, Jack Dorsey, he’s the bio-creator and the co-founder and chairman of Twitter.
And so this is somebody that I want to follow. This is somebody who I think would have great insight onto how to be a great entrepreneur, how to grow your business or how to create new businesses and things like that. But at the same time, some things that they might say, hey, I’m out with friends or hey, I’m doing this or I’m doing that, the stuff that you might be interested in. Kind of going down the list here, there’s another guy that I saw named Kevin Rose.
And the cool thing that I want to teach you is this verified thing right here. Sometimes people will come on here and they’ll create their Twitter accounts but by verify that means that they have a certain number of followers and so their email address has been verified by people at Twitter and these are the actual people, these the people kind of running Twitter from them but these are the people that are actually there.
And the cool thing about this is that he is the founder of the social media site Digg. If you don’t know what digg.com is, I’ll probably be reviewing it on kasocialmedia.com. But what it is, is basically the site once you go there and you think that’s a really cool site and you want to tell your friends about and you think that’s something interesting you click on Digg and it will dig the site. So let’s say, hey, this is another guy I want to follow. Coming up here, another thing that I’m really interested in is music. So let’s go to music. And the Decemberists is a great band and then down here there was one more who at solo, it was Benjamin Folds, I’m going to follow him. I want to hear what he has to say, everybody’s talking about.
The next step that you would click on—you can go through as many as you want and as many different categories as you want. The next step is kind of friends. And this is the step where a lot of people overlook that I really found some great use out of this. What this will do is if you have a gmail or yahoo account or an AOL account, you could basically go in there and you can put in your yahoo username or password and what it will do, it will search or hold your contacts and if any of your contact’s email address match up with their Twitter account, it’s already been created, it will give you a list and will say, hey, look this person has Twitter, that person has Twitter.
Sadly, I don’t have any contacts right now in my gmail account so I can’t really show you how this functions. But for me, it’s been great to see—once you go in there, you're like, oh my friend Steve has it or my friend Joe has it. And all this time you begin to realize that all these people are using Twitter, you may not know. So these are the people you want to follow because sometimes the tweet stuff about in other day or they’ll tweet what they’re doing. You can also use Twitter and say, hey, what are you doing today? Do you want to have coffee? Or something like that.
And then the next step you can do is you can just click anyone. So some of the main ones that I like to kind of follow though I’m a Mac guy, I can always follow Bill Gates and then here’s what I want to show you. All these people that don’t have the verified next to him, these are all people they’ve just decided up as Bill Gates and they’re all fakes. And so to find the right one, what you have to do is you actually have to type in a capital B and then once you do that you’ll see this person right here, he’s verified, this is the actual Bill Gates. And then after that, you hit next step, you’re done and this takes you to the next screen. And so this is where I will begin my next video.
Once again, this is Matt from KA Social Media. If you like to learn more, you can go to kasocialmedia.com and look forward to video number three.
