If you can’t connect your Mac to a wireless network, an Ethernet network is the next best thing.
Ethernet networks are very reliable, secure and fast and all newly Macs have ports for connecting the Ethernet. If you need to buy a new network and hardware, a router is the easiest and most flexible choice.
Now to get started, connect the Ethernet cable between the Ethernet port on your Mac and the local area network port on your Ethernet switch, hub or router. Now, you need to restart your Mac.
When you’re all booted up again, click the Apple menu and select the system preferences then click the network icon. Now, you’ll choose built in Ethernet and then click advance. The first line on the TCP/IP screen says configure IPv4 that’s where you select using DHCP.
If there’s no numeric IP address listed next to IPv4 address, click renewed DHCP list then click OK down at the bottom of the screen to close this window. Then click the apply button to set your changes. After that your Ethernet network connection is ready to go. It’s that simple.
