Male Speaker: Each printer setup is slightly different. If you received an installation CD and quick start guide, follow those instructions for the best setup. If you can't locate those materials, this video will show you how to set up a printer without them. To connect a printer to your Mac, first plug the printer into an AC wall jack. Next, plug the USB cable into the USB port on the Mac and make sure it's connected snuggly to the printer itself.
Turn on your printer, open text edit, Mac's word processor by clicking on the finder in the doc, then click applications. Scroll down and double click text edit. Open a document to print by clicking file, open. Then double click on the document. Choose file, print or use the keyboard shortcut by pressing and holding the Mac command key and then quickly press and release the P key on the keyboard, then release the command key. You'll find the print command under the file menu in almost every application. Then click the dropdown and select your model, if it's available. If it's not, click add printer. Select your USB printer. If it finds the right driver, you can click add. If it doesn't as in this case, you'll have to select it manually by clicking the dropdown and choosing your printers manufacturer from the list.
A set of models will slide out. There is a good chance your driver software will be in the list, scroll down and look for your model. This is a Photosmart C4385, the list is alphabetical. There are only two Photosmart drivers and either for the C4385, so a visit to the manufacturer's website is required. Downloading drivers is easy; you have to be connected to the Internet. Simply open your web browser, go to a search engine like Google, type the name of your printer's manufacturer into the search box and push enter. The first result will probably be the right choice. Look for the words, global site or official site. You should land on your printer manufacturer's homepage. Look for drivers and software or downloads. If you don't see either of those, try support.
HP has a search box to type in the model. This is a Photosmart C4385, choose your Mac operating system and look for the download link. In this case, click on the entry under the software. Then, click download only. Once you see the download window, wait for the driver software to download onto your machine. When the download is complete, double click the item in the download's window to open it. Then double click on the installer and proceed through the setup until the installation is complete.
When setup is complete, close the setup and all your browser windows. Close your printer browser and click the printer dropdown to find your new USB printer in the list. Simply select it, and then you can modify additional options such as the number of copies, the layout, and various other options specific to your printer. You can enter the number of copies and choose collated, which means the all pages of a document print before the next copy prints. When you are satisfied with your selections, click print.
