First, we will connect all microphone snake channel cables to the mixer. They are numbered so we just plug them into their corresponding mixer channels. Next, we must connect the sends. These are the cables carrying the mixers main and monitor outputs to the stage area. Send cables and microphone snakes are either labeled with numbers or letters such as Send A, Send B and so forth.
In this case, we are going to connect Send A to the left main output of the mixer and Send B to the right main output. This will send the signals from our mixers main stereo mix through the snake to the stage area to be connected at the other end to our main speaker stacks.
Now we need to connect two monitor mix sends through the snake. We will use the mixers Aux1 send or output for our first monitor mix. The monitors in the front stage area. We will use the mixers Aux2 send for monitor mix 2, the drummer’s mix. Many microphone snakes use XLR connectors for sends while others use quarter inch TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) type connectors.
Sometimes the mixer has a combination of connectors. It is common to have to convert connectors with an adapter. A common scenario is XLR main output and a quarter inch TRS auxiliary outputs on the mixer. Therefore, adapters like this one allows us to convert the XLR connectors to quarter inch TRS so we can hook up our monitor sense.
Once we finish these snake connections and connect the AC power to the mixer, we can move to the stage area.
