Dave: Hi, I’m David Epstein. This is Growing Wisdom. I am here today in one of the green houses that Teri Volante is helping to manage. And we’ve been filming a couple of videos today. One on lettuce seeds, one on tomatoes. And I notice the yellow cards they’re sticky. What do you guys using this for?
Teri: We use this to identify possible, you know, pest populations. And so basically, if you have a white fly or something on a plant, it will stick to this card when it tries to fly and then you can see “oh we definitely have white flies somewhere in this crop of plants”.
Dave: So for a small house, you know with one room and just a few plants, this is a nice organic way to help control some of those populations if you have things like white fly, or some other little nuts flying around.
Teri: Yup, you can definitely stick a few of them around the area you’re concerned about and see how many you catch.
Dave: I’d really understand the population of bugs you might have. Now, why yellow?
Teri: Insects are generally attracted to the color yellow so that’s why these cards are yellow.
Dave: So one thing you can do, you can go to your local green houses or online and look for some of this yellow bug sticky traps which will help control some of the populations in your own house. For Growing Wisdom, I’m Dave Epstein.
