Hey guys! It’s Crash Override from pwnhack.com. Now in this demonstration, I’m going to be showing you how to control iTunes from the internet. This is also known as an iTunes web remote. Now say, you have a Mac that has iTunes playing and you want to change the song from say another laptop or maybe like your iPod. This is how you would do it.
So, the first thing you'll need to do is download a program called TextWrangler. There’ll be a link in the side bar. This is a open source text editor that lets you edit configuration files. Now, once you have that downloaded and installed, you’re going to run the program, go to File, open hit in. Now, to find the Apache configuration file that we need, you’re going to go to your hard disk, go to private, ETC, Apache 2 then you’re going to go to httpd.conf. Now, that’s the main apache configuration file.
Now, there’s a lot of texts here but you’re going to look for Load module. Now all these, you can go all the way down to the bottom with this Load Module PHP5, Load Module Fast CGI. Now as you can see, there’s a pound sign next to that and if there’s a pound sign next to something it means that it’s disabled and we need to enable php5 so pull over here to this pencil icon which strike through, click it. This unlocks the configuration file so you can edit it and save it. Now, just remove this pound symbols to both of these and this enables php5 and CGI in the apache server.
Now, the next thing you need to do is change the user and group that the servers run. Now, it’s not far from load module if you come down to user and group, you’re going to need to change the user to the user of your Mac like my username on a Mac Pro is Nate, my short name is Nate so I’ll just N-A-T-E. And then you’re going to change the Group to Staff. That’s all you need to do so you can just come to file, save then it will save the configuration file. It might ask you to put in your password to confirm, so just hit okay, then you can close this.
Now, you’re going open up your iTunes remote files and as you can see I’ve included an index file and it control that php5 file. Now, to control that PHP file actually sends the commands to the Apple script. The index file is the actual control, it lets you click the next button and it will make the set of song change. Also with logo, I just put a little logo on there to make it look nice so just keep this open. We’re going to go the Apple system preferences, we’re going to go to sharing and we have to enable. You might have to unlock to make changes so okay, now you’re going to enable Web Sharing. As you can see Web Sharing is on, you can change the Computer Name, as you can see it says that your computer’s websites you can click this.
Now, open up Firefox and you see your website, it’s just a blank page that says “Your website’s up.” So, we can close this, now we’re going to open a new finder so from here we’re going to go to library, we’re going to come all the way down here to Web Server. Then documents and you can see all these stuff in here, you can just delete that. This is the main page that Apache uses to show that your websites or can just drag them in to and the come back to your iTunes remote files. Select them, you can copy them and then paste them in to this documents folder. Now let’s see, we can go back to system preferences, sharing and you’re going to have to disable Web sharing so it says Web sharing OFF then re-enable it.
Lock your settings and now you can click your computer’s website. Now you can see that my iTunes Web remote pages come up, you can open up iTunes. Okay so iTunes is open, make this small as you can still see it. Hit the play button and as you can see music starts playing now I’m hitting next and a new song comes out. Hit previous, previous song move up. Always commence work volume up as you can see when I click it and volumes going up, volume downwards, so I’ll just pause that. Yeah and that’s basically it now you can navigate to this site that it drags you in sharing options from like your iPod touch, any computer that’s connected to your network. You should be able to access this from and you could change your music so that’s it.
