How to Convert a House Clock to Solar Power in 30mins for $5

Choose a clock you would like converted to solar powered. Measure clocks power requirements. This clock needed about 60 milliamps, normally from a 1.5 volt battery. A solar cell of 2 volts and 160 milliamps from Ebay is good enough to power the clock and charge the battery in reserve for the dark nights. Although unnecessary for small projects like this, it is a good practice to smooth out solar output to batteries because they do not like rapid changes in charging. I had a small capacitor lying around so I included it.

After connecting the wires to positive to positive and negative to negative, use adhesive hot glue gun to stick the panel somewhere atop the clock for best sunshine. The solar panel changed the balance so to keep from falling over. I cut plastic from the milk bottle and hot glued them to the base to extend the feet. Glue along as much contact between panel and clock as you can for stability and strength.
