How to Cook Steel Cut Outs Steve: Hey! Cynthia is detained; she can’t be here so I’m going to cook steel cut oats for you today. So what would Cynthia say? Cynthia would say well these are steel cut oats so what’s makes this good is that they are simply whole oats that are cut. The rolled oats they steam them first and they press them down; so these are the real deal, but today I haven’t done anything to them and I’m going to use walnuts and raisins and Cynthia would like me to use salt but I don’t like salt, I don’t think I need it so I’m not going to. So fortunately I was just about to make a cup of tea so I have hot water and I’m going to put this on and I’m going to make, this is a half a cup of steel cut oats right here and the ratio is 4:1 so this two cups, half a cup and this is a bag hefty man sized portion of steel cut oats. If you got a bunch of family visiting, you just make a big old huge deal and it’s good cold so you can make it in the morning and people can keep coming can eat it, okay. So I’m just waiting for this boil, it’s pretty hot right now and then all you do is you know what you can do is soak them at night before you go to bed, you put two cups of water in this and you just leave them on the stove and let it soak and if you do that they cook really fast. We’re going to cook it a little slower because if we haven’t done that it is now boiling so we take this steel cut oats and we dump them into the boiling water like that and then we take the walnuts and we take the walnuts and dump them into the boiling water and those are organic bulk steel cut oats, it’s a lot cheaper, they are less than a dollar a pound and this is raisins. Steve: That’s the lighting honey. Do you want some steel cut oats? Jane: Um-hmm. Steve: Alright. Jane: With peanut butter? Steve: I’m just waiting for it to cook here. We’re waiting. You can tell when it’s done by the sound of the boil, it’s like putob, putob, putob, putob, putob, that is not done, it’s like a purgh, purgh, purgh, purgh, purgh, that is done. We’re done now. Steel cut oats by themselves are great and if you add raisins and walnuts, they’re even better. Overkill if you want to is without the, out the raisins and walnuts or with them would be (stop it. Stop it.) with the peanut butter, okay so, mash the peanut butter like that. This really is good, it doesn’t sound good, it is and just mix it up so it gets. Jane: Peanut butter.
