Speaker: Dr. Michael Lyon is an expert on Weight Management and Appetite Control.
Dr. Michael Lyon: The vast majority of people with weight problems really don't want to lose weight.
Speaker: Dr. Lyon is the Medical and Research Director of the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine. He admits his findings are radical, but they are part of a new understanding of how the human appetite is regulated.
Dr. Michael Lyon: Deep inside of our brain, there are deep primal centers that are calling out for food, that are commanding you to eat at the wrong time too quickly, the wrong food choices, and eat too much and if you cant get your brain on your side, you are ultimately going to fail.
Speaker: Dr. Lyon and his colleague, Dr. Michael Morley outline their findings in this book, 'Hunger Free Forever.' Their research has found that fluctuating blood-sugar levels can make it almost impossible for someone to lose weight and stay healthy.
Dr. Michael Lyon: We discovered that people with weight problems are on what we might call the blood-sugar roller coaster, where their blood-sugar goes up and down like this, all day long, and it's this, what we call blood-sugar volatility; this irregularity of blood-sugar that drives the appetite more than any other single factor.
Speaker: A decade of research has found a way to level out this roller coaster with a unique blend of Polysaccharides, soluble fibers called PGX, Polyglycoplex. This concentrated fiber slows digestion, leveling out blood-sugar spikes and providing satiety, of feeling of fullness.
Dr. Michael Lyon: We started to partner with University of Toronto about 4 years ago, and we continued that research until we finalized the formulation, that's now called PGX or Polyglycoplex, which is the most unique dietary Polysaccharide in the world. 5 grams of PGX behaves like 25 grams of fiber in terms of how much water it absorbs, how much space it occupies in the stomach, the thickness that it imparts to the food, so the food is very thick and makes the digestion slower.
It still absorb all those nutrients, but it takes a lot longer for those nutrients to be absorbed. So sugar doesn't surge after your meals, you tend to feel satisfied for a lot longer after meals.
Speak: Clinical trials at St. Michael's Hospital and the Canadian Center for Functional Medicine, have shown that PGX helps control appetite and weight, while improving blood-sugar conditions that can lead to diabetes and increased risk of cardiovascular disease.
