Host: Okay, if we are really concerned about kids development, maybe artistic, probably there's problem around, somebody says, it's called ABA, are you familiar what ASA is?
Henry Joseph Hasson: sure.
Host: That's a Form of Behavior more --
Henry Joseph Hasson: It's an applied behavior therapy and a lot of these programs have been shown to help -- it's little difficult to do real studies on exactly which therapies work better than others. Some clearly seem to be working better, some are much more popular.
You have to be careful, because there are a lot of these therapies have been tested.
Host: An ABA is done by a well trained and probably motivated workers.
Henry Joseph Hasson: sure, we've seen--.
Host: How often we could help our children?
Henry Joseph Hasson: Yeah, we have seen children do remarkably well with ABA therapy, remember in that, in todays school system, we have got 30-35 children in a class, a little hard to tailor education to each child and sometimes all the child needs is a different way of learning, different way of looking at things, and especially those autistic children by giving them the way that they are able to learn, they will be able to reach their potential as best as possible.
Host: And with every kid, it can be different things that work with one, than another and get the first right, but there are some crazy therapies out there, what's called Chelation, and theory behind that is heavy metals poison the kid and we take it out of the body and the kid will wake up and be cured, is there any medication called Chelation
Henry Joseph Hasson: Yeah, you really have to be careful doing a lot of thing. A lot of us try to avoid any intervention that has been proven to work, especially that may have side effects in the child. We always go back to the first harm that we have been thought, from way back when, that whenever you are dealing with a child, especially, you really don't want to harm the child, and unless you know that your therapy that you are doing is safe and effective, we find out to do it. If you look at all the FDA trials and any clinical trials, they always start with safety before you even need to -- before you even know that if it works or not. The first stage is isn't this safe, and if it;s not proven to be safe, then we try to avoid that.
