Hi my name is Matt Landsberg with Eric Finn Custom Clothiers and today we’re talking
about how to buy and fit a properly fitting suit and shirt. We’ve got Bryce for the short
that has been tailored for him and you can see a significant difference than one is bought
of the rack. First thing you’ll notice is how it fits in the shoulders. The big point is, is at
the piece across the back called yolk is not too long. Frequently you’ll se shirts that are
borrowed off the rack where the yolk comes down and it’s still thin and looks a little bit
sloppy.
The big thing to notice where the shirt has been made for him is how it’s not too full in
the way it’s frequently the shirt off the rack will be lots of blousing, this is not the case
it’s been cut for him. Bryce is an athletic cut so he’s won more than most that really
needs something that’s tailored to him. The sleeves are a good length there’s nothing
unusual about that. It’s not too long and too short when he pulls it and moves his arms up
it doesn’t pull back.
There’s not a whole lot of extra bulk and material there. Let’s next put the jacket on him
and keep in mind this jacket wasn’t specifically tailored for Bryce but it fits in general as
well. It gives you an idea of how it should fit. First thing to notice is how it fits on the
shoulders it’s not too full, it’s not too wide. Bryce has a broad shoulders so you don’t
want to keep it too tight on him but at the same time you don’t want the extra shoulder
coming down another half inch which would be pretty poor.
Another thing to it is notice the sleeves are just right, you’ve shown about a ¼ inch of
cuff and then also the chest is good here and he’s got nice tape on the wais. Again this is
important for somebody with an athletic cut and you can really see the difference. Now if
you can turn around Bryce. Here you can see how well it’s tailored on the back. It’s got a
nice V-shape for somebody who has that you really want to accentuate that, your
illusions to create that can be created for other people that don’t have the ideal shape that
Bryce has and where you can do things that tied and make certain parts of your body look
better that you don’t want people to see.
The length of the trouser here is right on target too, you can see the bottom of the pant is
right at the top of the heel of his shoe and turn around again. So he’s got just a slight
break here which is perfect and that’s how a suit should fit.
