Hey guys, this is Master Jake and today, I'm going to be showing you how to create a simple map, whether you’re writing a novel or building a map for a game, and you don’t want to have to think up and design the areas for the map off the top of your head. You can kind of let Photoshop help you out.
Go ahead and go to file new and we’re going to create a new document. I'm going to make mine 640 by 480, make yours whatever size you want your map to be. It’s a very simple method. Double click the background layer for starters just to go ahead and unlock it. Press okay when that download comes up. I’ll press the new layer icon down here, just so we can work on another layer in case we want to shutoff the background and make it transparent.
Go to filter render clouds and you have some clouds out here. Now, one more time, go to filter, this time go to sketch. Actually, I need to scroll down a little bit to see that. Go to filter, sketch, note paper. Now, as you can see here briefly, we have a map starting to come into form. It looks kind of like a map. Now here’s the option over here, image balance. The higher this is, the more water there is as you can kind of look at it. So right now it’s 33, almost max. You can see this grayish area, it can be represented as water and the white can be land. And as you can see, there’s little land lifted up that high, so I'm going to drag it down a little bit. I'm going to do it right there and this patterns that generate, they’ll be different every time because they are depended upon the clouds that you generate, which are also random.
So you’ve basically created a map. Now if you want to edit it a little bit more. The graininess that as you can see over here, I'll drag it back over. Pay close attention in this area as I drag the graininess up, you can see it starts to get more a tint. I'm going to put it back around five then a relief that basically works around the shadows on the land, the intensity of them. I’ve put it up really high. It gets really intense. Really intense shadows, but if it’s all the way low, then it looks kind of like perfect. So I'm going to put that on five, two that looks about right. You’ll see over here it’s all five press ok. We have a basic map generated.
Now I'm going to go up here to image adjustments here in saturation. I'm going to check the color as box and just drag the hue over to a bluish color. I'm going to play around with the saturation. That looks alright. So now we’ve given our water a little bit of color. And now, the last thing to do is just spice up your map, add whatever symbols or labels you want. We’ll add a label here. Of course you should come up with your map names, but we’ll just say, let’s make it black first of all so you can actually see it. Let’s say Asia. There you go. Alright, so we have an Asia, just drag that down, say there then you can put a Europe. See where you would want to put that. Just put it right here. And yeah, that’s basically it. You just drag around and play around with the options and create a map and draw some lines and put an X, make it look like our treasure map whatever you want.
