Celebrate your life, celebrate your home. I am your host Melissa Galt and your lifestyle guide. The author of "Celebrate Your Life". The Art of Celebrating Everyday.
Today I am going to share with you some quick tips on how to decorate for the holidays with garlands. This garland I actually leave up year around, but I changed the decoration slightly, season to season, holiday celebrations to holiday celebrations.
Right now, I have still got it decked for Halloween with the goblets on it. But, all I have to do for Thanksgiving is takeoff this goblin, and I have got my Autumnal, my Fall seasonal ready to go with my bronze colors, my terracottas, my green sages, and it has a real fall harvesty feeling to it.
Now for Christmas what I tend to do is take all of this off and leave the garland with the lights in place, and I will go ahead and I'll put gold, silver, and white ornaments on it, and give it that very Christmassy kind of feel. Very elegant, lot of sparkle to it.
Then come Valentines Day. I usually add some red hearts to it, and on Saint Patrick's, I will do either green ornaments, or sometimes I will add little leprechauns, and these are called sticks, and it's just literally a little arrangement, a mini arrangement on stick and you just slide it in that easily and simply, and it catches at home.
All of the ornaments are not on the ornament holders, they are just wrapped on the tips of the branches, and the fun part of this is the metal teasers. These come for every season. For Christmas, I will use a little stars. And again for Valentine you can use little hearts, and for Saint Patrick's you can get little. Usually for July 4th if I am really feeling into it, I can find little flags that I can weave around this, but these really add a festive air to it.
It's just the sparkle invites people into the house, and I don't want that to be around, because I don't want to have to deal with the little holes at the top. Although you could use the three M stick and not have anymore to deal with.
So remember, garlands are flexible, easy, you can leave it year round, just change the ornaments each season or each celebration. Celebrate your life, celebrate your home, live well and beautifully.
