In this video I’m going to demonstrate how to make different colored designs using the burnished velvet glitter technique. I did an earlier video showing the burnished velvet technique using one large picture and transparent glitter. With this, we’re going to be using two or more colors of opaque glitter and we’ll also need some double sided sticky tape, a punch, this one is by Marvy, and some resist paper. Resist paper is the paper that stickers are stock on. When you remove the stickers this material remains and it’s resistant to sticking which is exactly what we need here.
So, you begin by punching three shapes out of your resist paper. The next move is to place your double sided sticky tape wherever you wanted on your project and rub it quite carefully you want it very well stock. And when you have rubbed it enough remove that, this is your resist paper, you can use for another project. Now, placing them carefully, place your three resist flowers on your sticky tape and try to rub them down but do it without touching the sticky tape if possible. So rub them down as carefully as you can.
Now, we’re going to start adding the glitter and you always add your darkest color first, so you have to sort of plan in advance how you want the end result to be, because if you add a light color and then a dark color there’s going to be some bleeding. So, my darkest color here is the purple and I want it to be the outline. So I do like that, shake it off and then I rub it to burnish it and as you can see I have quite a nice border. And the next thing is going to be the pink. So using your tweezers go over and carefully, carefully remove each one of these three stickers, I’ll do that off camera.
So now that I’ve removed the bunch of flower shapes I will pour the pink glitter over the top, shake it off and if you go over and rub it like this you get a beautifully burnished effect. So that’s one very simple design using the burnish glister.
So here’s another project that I’ve made. This one is more complex. I’ve used five different colors of glitter. I’ve put a border along the edge which you can do with a thin strip on two sides of a wider strip. I’ve used this mask where I’ve cut the leaves side of it and I’ve also used the leaves. I have forgotten earlier to suggest that you wipe the glitter off with one of these brushes rather than brushing it with your fingers the way I did. So I strongly encourage you to do that in your projects and also I would like to advice that you don’t touch the sticky tape with your fingers because that will sort of give a blurring effect. But anyway, there you have the burnished velvet technique for a design.
