The color wheel is used as a tool to show the different relationships and combinations that are possible. The complimentary or contrasting colors schemes. These are colors that are directly opposite to each other on the color wheel. Interestingly, when they are mixed together, they form gray and neutralize each other. Using this color combination enhances each color creating a strong sense of visual movement when the colors are placed side by side.
The Split Complementary scheme, with this system, you select the color and then use a color either side of its complimentary color. This selection provides a more pleasing or softer color scheme than a true complimentary.
A Triadic Color Scheme consists of three colors that are equally spaced from each other. For example, the corners of an equal lateral triangle, the best-known example of this is the primary colors on the color wheel, red, yellow and blue. And the next step on this is a two Tetradic Color Scheme. This consists of four more colors but essentially, they are two sets of complimentary colors. And Analogous Color Scheme is composed of two or more harmonious or pleasing colors closely related that lie next to each other on the color wheel such as depicted here with the green, light green and yellow.
The next scheme is the – complimentary, this is where the color scheme consist of two color side by side with the complimentary colors opposite them on the color wheel. Harmonic or – color scheme is created by using varying shades, tints or tones of one color. It is popular because it is easily created and is peaceful and is restrained.
