If you are in Linux, you are going to use open office, now open office is great but you also want to make it compatible with Microsoft office because chances are if you go to work or you go to school and you want to edit your files. Chances are those computers are going to have windows and on the windows its almost guaranteed that they have Microsoft office installed.
So if you want to edit, you would have to make a compatible file, so that’s what were going to do today, make a compatible file so both software can edit what you need to edit. Now by default, the files save on open office or this type of files. ODS files and to change that you want to applications on top here and you want to go to office and you want to select open office word processor here and open it. And once you open that it will sound like this right, its like Microsoft word right and if you want to save it manually, you would have to go to files right and save as.
And in save as, as you can see the default is ODT files, now if you want to change this so it can work with Microsoft office, you have to select that and you want to change it to Microsoft word 97, 2000 XP and this are doc files. Now that’s what you want to save to, if you want it to this manually. However most of us cannot forget or were too lazy to you know one of those things, so we want to save it default every time you know so we don’t have to remember it ever again. And to do that is you go to tools, here and you go down to options right and in options you want to click on load and save and when you expand that with the plus sign here, you see generals.
You click on generals and you see this menu over here right and on this menu you want to focus on with this text document right here and inside over here it says always save as ODF files. But you don’t want to save it like that, you want to save it to Microsoft word 2000 XP right and that is just for word but if you have on like XL and stuff like that you want to use. That’s the spreadsheet right here, and you want to change that also, same things, same deal.
And you want to do the presentation which is according to power point and the same deal, you want to look for hard drive right and to save on 2000 XP. And now that we did all that, we click okay and to see if its default now, all you have to do is make sure is to click on files and then we go back to save as. And you see right here the default is always going to be Microsoft stuff, so the format is going to be Microsoft word or Microsoft excel or Microsoft power point. So now that you go to work or go to any windows machine, you’ll be compatible and you don’t have to worry about and just work on windows or not work on windows. So you are good now.
