Hey guys this is Eric from FinalCutStudioSchool.com and I’m finally get ramped in doing the volcano tutorial. I had on my Mac versus PC show on this power shake. I want to take you through this for you guys who don’t know how to do it you shake uses out there.
So I’m not going to bullshit any longer, so let’s get into this because this is going to take quite a while. Not quite a while, but I’m going to the rush through it, and it’s going to take quite a few minutes and for YouTube. I don’t like it to be super long if I can help it so let’s get into this.
So we have our volcano. I’m sure you all seen the other video. What’s its going to look like? So I’m not going to bother with mode not a movie of the finish product. We’ll see it when we get done.
First thing I’m going to do to this I’m going to add a quick paint node, and I’ll play it right there. Now I want to go in and add a switch matte to this quick paint node layer switch matte now. I want to make my RotoShape and what I want to with this RotoShape is I’m going to mask out the sky. So I’m going to image RotoShape and let me zoom in here, and let me zoom through this RotoShape. I do expect you guys to take a lot more care than what I’m doing here. There’s no need to rush something like this. This project at work would easily take me all day because I’m not going to rush through it in 20 minutes, don’t think I was crazy. You know even you can do it pretty quick. You know don’t sell yourself short. Take your time make your work worthwhile make it impressive, and if you’re a freelance, people want to rehire you again. And if you work for somebody they won’t want to fire you. And that’s the goal right to make money without being fired, and have a job that you love because if you have a job you love, it can’t really be considered work can’t it? At least I don’t consider what I do work. I love going to my job every morning. I could invest for anything better than what I have now. I mean great that I looked into my job that I have even though I’ve trained for it and took classes. There’s still a fair amount of luck and get into this industry. It’s better if you know somebody anymore it’s not dependent on the tool set as it is you’ve been an artist used too. If you could open shake 10 years ago then you could get a job. If you could use shake you can have a job, but anymore the tools are so cheap and so available to everyone that you have to be an artist because you have your work has to stand out. It’s not lucky as it used to be.
Okay, now I have this RotoShape. Let’s take our RotoShape let me refresh one node. Let me pop in the mask switch matte. Now as you can see we have our sky removed, okay. So now the first thing I’m going to do is going to my quick paint node, and well I suggest my RotoShape just to CAD this point here need to be bring down a little like that. Maybe up here too. Okay and that fit in. So I went into my quick paint node now I’m going to click my color swatch, and I want to sample maybe the color here of the same scene, and I want to make my brush bigger. And I want to go in, and I’m going to paint this mountain to make it even a darker look. You know it’s too peppy right now. We want to give it a gleamy look because it’s what we’re doing here in my painting. Now when I click on my clone tool I want to just go in and top, top, top along the bottom here kind of try and trying to make the transitional little smoother. Okay, now we’ve got that done.
Let’s move on to our next step, but the first thing I’m going to blur my RotoShape. Filter, blur. I blur it about eight pixels. Okay, now I have that set up. Now I’m going to add a move2D go to transform move2D. Now this in case I have to adjust anything later I might not do anything to our Roto now. Now I’m going to up under my color. A saturation node, and I want to bring the saturation under about .2. There’s not much color but just a little bit because I’m going to add a compress node, and I want it a little bit of color for that compress node that grab onto. So let’s go to color, compress I’m going to select my hot color and I want to warm it up a little bit into the yellowish around there like that. Now it’s a little more warmer looking. So now I’m going to back to my move2D node, and I want to branch off and invert sub-color, invert branch okay. Now I have this funky looking deal, but we’re going to fix this. We’re going to add a contrast luma put a color contrast luma. Now my value I want to put my value to about really high. If I center up pretty high, so I can just have this white dots this barely coming through here as you can see. It’s barely showing this is what’s going to be our lava a 9.8 it ain’t going up so I wan to top in my value I’m toping 15 there. Now that’s looking pretty good this is going to be our lava, and I’ll show you how we’re going to do that here in just a minute.
So now I’m going to add a color correction to this contrast luma. Color, color correct now I’m going to go in to the game of my color correct high of master control, and then going to my game. And I want it full with my reds, my greens and my blues. Now I want to take my red probably all the way up like that. And I will take some green out. I mean some green to it to give us that orangey look maybe bring some blue out just to give at that yellowy hazy look. Okay, now we have this sort of a lava looking effect coming in, so now we’re going to blur this. Let’s go to filter, blur that’s one blur. Now let’s branch out another blur from our color correct right click branch, and I want to set this first blur to about 20 pixels, and soften that up a little bit. And I’m going to make my second blur. I want to make it I don’t know maybe five pixels. Now this will soften up our lava a tad bit as you can see there before the blurs, and now with the blurs. It really soften to that a little bit, and we’re going to screen this together some of my layer go to screen. Okay, now we have this screen together. Now from our compress node we’re going to —I’m going to add a switch matte to this screen first and then in our compress node we’re going to join this two together. So from my screen node go to layer switch matte, and now I’m go to image and add a RotoShape. Now I’m going to Roto out my lava maybe spot the lava is flowing through I don’t want to take out my whole scene here, so I just want to look like maybe it’s flowing through here like so that with refresh one node. It’s popping in to my switch matte. Okay, now we have this going on now. I guess I could blur my shape a little bit by going to filter, blur maybe blur by about eight pixels. Seven, eight is my standard blur what I like to use. Okay, now we got our mix these two together from my compress node and from my switch matte. I’m going to add a multi layer node, so let’s go to compress layer, multi-layer. Okay, now I’ve got a multi-layer and I’m going to pop my switch matte in this multi-layer like so. And I’m going to make the layer one screen like that. Now as you can see I go on and adjust my shape now right here to adjust it along this rock like so, and you can make this however, you want it this lava however, you want it. You can make it as prominent or as subtle as you find necessary. Okay, I guess we could maybe bring in there just to here a little. Okay, now I have what we follow looks like our lava is shining through. Go get while I’m going with these guys.
So now what we’re going to do is we need to add our clouds so let me pull in my clouds here which is this right here made in Cinema4D, so I’m going to a pin and move2D node to this. Okay, so we need to move it around which we will, and then I’m going to add a compress, and I’m going to make my hot color yellowish like always to make it match okay. then I’m going to add a fade node under the color tab fade, and I’m going to fade it down I don’t know maybe to 80.85.
