Hey youtubers, what’s up? I am working out on a studio on a Sunday afternoon. As you can see I am reclaiming some black clay. But over here, I have little project going on. I have some of the black clay that I have been reclaiming and then I have also mixed it in with some natural bluff clay to give it kind of this marbleize effect.
So, I am going to continue wedging that together and then draw a piece and we will see how it comes out. Okay, so I have wedged these pieces together and then as you can see, there is a bit of a marble effect going on and I just decided just to be noddy. I was going to take some purslane and go ahead and put that, work that into the mix also. Just put one piece on each wedge there and wedge that together. So I will do that next.
Okay, we have got that wedge together and as you can see there is quite of marble effect going on. We have got three different tones of clay. We have got the black, the buff clay and the purslane clay. So let us draw that on the wheel and see what we can make.
All right, let us slam this soccer on the wheel. Okay now, some of you might be saying, “How, where all the cool marble go?” And it is there, it is just covered up with slip. So let me scrape some of the outside off so you kind of see and if you—I do not know if the camera is going to pick this up because of the quality of my camera is not all the great. But, I can definitely see layers, a black clay, buff clay, and purslane clay. Let me zoom that up so you can see it closer view of that.
Okay, here we are from my point of view. You can definitely see there, there is some of the purslane, the natural buff, the black clay. You can see those layers and the lump there. So hopefully would not blend too much together when I am throwing, but if I want this to actually have some of those still show, I am going to have to throw relatively, quickly and not piddle or mash clay together too much or I lose this effect.
Okay, I am opening up the piece now and internal diameter. See about where I wanted to be. Straighten up the walls and I am going to resist slowing my wheel down too much on youtube, just made a video last night. And he said, keeps the world going a little bit faster so you will have to keep the piece centered. Sir Josh, I am taking your advice. Oh, I am scared and I am going against my—what I am going to do which would be to slow my wheel down. I am going to keep it going fast.
I do not see a lot of marbleizing going on in the outside, but I can definitely see down the inside. So I will show back here and it is like I am going to cut off the top.
Okay, the walls at the top especially are very, very down pen. I am waiting for this to collapse any second. However, I hate the profile of this ball totally make the shape. So at the risk of loosing the piece, I am going to try to push that out and see if I can get it to—I do not know, how about more pleasant.
Okay, so you are like “Oh no! What have you done?” Well, I just felt like to lift or the side of the wall was just so thin and so I tried to thicken it, messed it out, cut it off. It was almost cut off. So okay, and a little bit more. So I just can mess with it. But that is okay, I have the piece that I am happy with that I like. I wanted to show you this last thing. Everybody has seen this I am sure. These were those little match tool things. I use them to thicken the lip a little bit, but what is really cool about this—I do not know if you ever done this before because I love that little match because I can use to like hook on to my tray and then I can just tilt this. It has like a built in and I love that because it just kind of help me center things up a little bit and the extra clay that collects on the side like. You see I can just send that off when it gets dryer.
So anyway, that is okay. I am all right with this. I am all right with piece. This is cool. Let me do a close up and so you can see the inside a little better.
Okay, so here is a better view of the inside. You can see the different kinds of clays. They have made a kind of neat pattern. So, my only concern about this piece right now is that the lip is really thin. So, I hope that when I trim that, I do not break it and it will survive all the firing, and handling and trimming, and turning upside down and all that stuff. We will see what happens to it. If it lives great and if not, we will try again next time. But, I hope it will look good with the clear code on it. I think that would be kind of a neat effect.
